Our professional meetings are held on Thursday evening in Lillis 211 at 6:00 pm and last approximately one hour. In each meeting, one or more professionals from the government, private sector, or public accounting share their knowledge and experience. Topics range from understanding career fields and opportunities to more technical topics. Following each meeting there is time to socialize and network. Light food and drinks will be served and members, pledges, professionals, faculty, and others can mingle informally. Our plan for professional activities during the upcoming quarters are shown below:

Speaker: Julie Schlendorf, Partner, PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP
Come and join us for the 2009 University Night, co-sponsored by the OSCPA Emerald Empire LSA and the UO Beta Alpha Psi chapter.
Our speaker for the evening is Julie Schlendorf a PricewaterhouseCoopers (PWC) audit partner primarily serving clients in the
retail and consumer industry. Currently she serves the Nike engagement, coordinating audit and other services delivered globally.
In addition to Nike, she has recently assumed the global relationship role on Starbucks and Nordstrom.
The SEC has issued a proposed roadmap that could lead to the voluntary or mandatory use of IFRS by all U.S. issuers beginning in
2014. Under this plan, about 110 companies could start following international rules even earlier. To date over 100 countries have
adopted IFRS in support of global accounting standards. With a change seeming increasingly likely, many companies are looking for
conversion roadmaps and solutions. Based on the experience of other countries, conversion is a significant endeavor and an early
start can make a difference. IFRS implementation has implications beyond finance and financial reporting – reaching and affecting
all parts of the business. It requires modification of processes and systems to support the new accounting and reporting requirements.
Therefore, it makes sense to assess readiness sooner rather than later.
Julie is a national firm expert for PWC on various topics, including IFRS and will speak to us about the impact of IFRS on small
to medium-sized CPA firms and their clients.
We will be sending out formal sign-up information in early January.
